In Memoriam: Ed Degnan

Edward Joseph Degnan III, who spent 28 years in equipment specification at Subway, died September 24 after a long battle with cancer. He was 52.

Degnan, a senior equipment specialist, and his team at Subway’s world headquarters were honored with FER’s Management Excellence Award in 2013.

“Ed Degnan was one of the most creative chain purchasing executives in the history of the business,” says FER Publisher Robin Ashton. “His deal to have Coca-Cola help Subway franchisees buy fast ovens transformed the chain and helped drive innovation in the equipment and supplies industry. And on top of that, he was studiously ethical and just a really nice guy.”

The avid Yankee and Dolphins fan is survived by his wife Nancy; son Matthew; and his mother. Memorial donations can be made to the Edward J. Degnan III Testamentary Trust, F/B/O Matthew J. Degnan, 170 Penn Common, Milford, Conn. 06460.
