Engineering students from Marquette University took a deep dive into solving real-world challenges at the second annual hack-a-thon sponsored by Alto-Shaam and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

The April 12-13 event at Alto-Shaam’s corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wis., provided the manufacturer an opportunity to network with and foster recruitment from the Marquette University engineering program and its students. Three teams of “hackers” had 24 hours to develop an innovative solution to a real-world challenge in the foodservice industry. They were assisted, in an advisory capacity, by several volunteers from Alto-Shaam’s engineering department.

The students presented their designs, solutions and ideas to Alto-Shaam’s chief engineers, Jon Flick and Josh Wittig.
