Daniel Cheung, known as the “godfather of HOFEX,” the long-running food and hospitality event in Hong Kong is set to retire from his role as general manager of event host UBM HKES on May 31.

Michael Duck, executive vice president of commercial development at Informa Markets (which organizes HOFEX), shared the news on Feb. 23.

“Under the leadership of Daniel, the 33-year-old HOFEX event has accomplished many milestones [and has] grown to become one of today’s most recognized food and hospitality events,” Duck said. “I am deeply indebted to Daniel’s friendship, vision and commitment for propelling HOFEX to this leading position.”

Cheung also has served as chairman of the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Association, among other commitments.

Janice Lee, a 20-year employee of Informa Markets, is set to replace Cheung as event director for the food portfolio in Hong Kong.
