Two Canada-based quick-service restaurant concepts are joining forces after MB Int’l. Brands reached a deal to acquire Fat Bastard Burrito Co.

Under the agreement, expected to close on June 30, MB Int’l. Brands’ Mary Brown’s Chicken will combine with Fat Bastard Burrito Co., offering customers an expanded menu. Mary Brown’s Chicken is known for its chicken and potatoes, while Fat Bastard Burrito Co.’s menu features burritos, quesadillas and loaded waffle fries.

Founded in 1969, Mary Brown’s Chicken has approximately 215 stores, with 30 more set to open by the end of the year, while the 22-year-old Fat Bastard Burrito Co. has 75 locations open or under development in Ontario.

“Mary Brown’s and Fat Bastard Burrito are leaders in their respective food segments. The transaction combines two highly complementary franchise networks that, together, will provide more delicious choices for diners as well as more opportunities for existing and new franchisees of both brands—across Canada and beyond,” says Hadi Chahin, president of MB Int’l. Brands, in a press release.

MB Int’l. Brands says the leadership team at Fat Bastard Burrito Co. will remain in place through a transition period and that the deal will make it one of the largest privately held QSR companies in Canada.
