Topgolf is swinging into China as it opens its first location in Shanghai, with another to follow in Chengdu that will be the biggest Topgolf location in the world.

The Shanghai location, Lounge by Topgolf, is the first venue to operate in mainland China and only the second Lounge by Topgolf in the world, following the debut of the concept in Kirkland, Wash., in January 2020.

The all-indoor 21,000-sq.-ft. entertainment space boasts a theme of “east meets west,” which is inspired by the cultural, creative and contemporary hub of the city, according to a press release. It can accommodate 300 people and will feature a menu of Pan-Asian cuisine and craft cocktails.

As for entertainment, the Lounge by Topgolf will feature a nine-hole mini-golf experience inspired by Chinese watercolors and Swing Suite bays with simulator technology. The venue will open to the public on Sept. 14.

Next up is Topgolf Chengdu, which will set a record for the company for its size—a massive 130,000 sq. ft. The multi-level entertainment venue won’t be short on food and beverage options. Dining plans for the venue include an all-day dining concept, a Chinese restaurant and a premium steakhouse and seafood restaurant.

The custom-designed venue also will come complete with 104 outdoor hitting bays, 14 VIP rooms, mini-golf facilities and six Swing Suite indoor simulator bays. It is expected to open in late 2022.

Topgolf is partnering with Sports Entertainment Asia Ltd. (SEAL) on both locations.

The expansion into China marks the brand’s sixth country to operate Topgolf locations. Approximately 70 other locations also operate in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Mexico and U.A.E. According to a press release, Topgolf franchise developers also have construction efforts underway in Germany and Thailand.
