Burkett Restaurant Equipment and Supplies held its 2022 Mike Burkett Memorial Golf Outing on Aug. 9 in Perrysburg, Ohio, and raised a record-breaking $15,000 to benefit the National MS Society.

The event was started in 2017 with a focus on connecting with customers, vendors, rep groups and friends, but the focus of this year’s event changed as it marked the first golf outing since the passing of Burkett’s founder, Mike Burkett. Burkett passed away in March 2021 at age 63 after a 34-year battle with multiple sclerosis.

While the event is now being held in honor of Burkett, the mission, says Burkett’s son, Jameel Burkett, CEO and president of Burkett Restaurant Equipment and Supply, is still to raise funds for the National MS Society and “have a great time on the course.”

“It’s very humbling to see customers and vendors traveling in for this event from all over the nation to support our fundraising efforts,” says Jameel. “We are proud to work with such a generous group of people who made it possible to support a charity that is near and dear to my heart, the National MS Society.”

Following the golf scramble, the company presented outing awards, along with annual partner awards. The 2021 Vendor of the Year was awarded was presented to Tom Carlyle and Andy Zurawski of True Mfg., and the 2021 Rep Group of the Year was presented to Travis Lusky, Mike McCrone and Tim Zink of Zink Foodservice.

Burkett Restaurant Equipment and Supplies landed the No. 28 spot on FER’s 2022 Top Dealers list.
